Summer 1998

Since our Spring Newsletter things have come to completion in the building programme. The Mill is now complete with balcony, office and restoration workshop. The Interpretation Centre is decorated, the shop is up and running, tables & chairs are readily available for customers.

As some areas are still bare and undeveloped, much planting needs to be done and the lawn needs time to grow. Interpretation facilities will be furthered by the introduction of Information Boards and Mill artefacts.

We had a very good response on our Official Opening Day, about 150 people turned up and most seemed to have a very enjoyable time, the sun even shone.

So, now to the not so good parts; the word is not spreading and we are not obtaining the visitor figures to make us viable without grant funding. So come on members, spread the word, encourage your family to ask for school visits to bring education to the forefront at PATH HEAD WATER MILL.

BTCV staff started work on site on 1st July and are helping with landscaping and further stone walling. They are now training operatives for NVQ’s in grass cutting and strimming.

Project Co-ordinator

I am currently preparing a 4 mile Sponsored Walk for Sunday 16 August to raise revenue for the Mill. Refreshments and a guided tour of the Mill will be made available for all participants.
We have received donations from a number of companies and organisations during our restoration project. Most of this money was received for the building project but we still need to meet running costs. This is why every penny raised by this event will go straight back into the continued running of the only fully restored water mill in the region: your PATH HEAD WATER MILL.

If you would like to help us by either taking part in the walk or by making a sponsorship donation, please either call into the Mill or telephone me on 0191 2903013.

Do you know anyone who would like to become members of Vale Mill Trust? If so please pass on the membership form.
