Winter 2003

We have seen restoration of the Mill building and the Water Wheel. The erection of the mill artefacts from Acomb Mill, the establishment of the Willow House, the Sun Clock and The Compass. We have a nice sample pf dry stone walling and there has also been the expansion of the Mill pond.

During the course of 2003 we have further developed into Renewable Technology and with several grants from various sources we are developing a new Reed Bed to filter the ironey water, a Reservoir to store water for energy and we are utilising some of the last century technology along with some of the 21st Century as a showcase for Renewable energy.

The Wind Pump obtained from Gorfon Letch has been restored and is now fully serviceable and should be pumping before our Christmas break. The pump will supply our new reservoir which is set about 3.6 metres above our existing pond level and therefore stores huge potential energy.

Alongside the Wind Pump we are obtaining a grant to install a Htdraulic Ram Pump (Hydram) at the outlet from the Reed Bed and agaom this will lift the water to the reservoir to increase the water stored energy within the site. All this energy is environmentally friendly and will also create further habitat for wildlife.

All this potential energy will be conveyed to the Mill by a pipe down the site to the overflow channel of the Mill. This will drive a water turbine through a vertical draught tube to generate 12 volt electricity for demonstration purposes for schools, students and third world applications.

This has brought the Mill to a new chapter and demonstrates our restoration project has moved into a development project alongside the C1730 Water Mill.

I think that is about all we have for the time being. It just remains for the Trustees, Ben and myself to wish you a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Trevor, December 2003
