Spring 2005

So at last the sun shines, Spring must be here! Our site is drying out and we can walk about without wellies.

The warmer weather has allowed us to speed up our building works, the Hydram now works and the Reed Bed awaits filling, these two items work with each other to use the water energy and also filter the water before it enters our system.

The Hydram will be working for National Mills Weenend on the 7th and 8th May, it is also free for all visitors and we have a Craft Fair that weekend, so a good opportunity to have a look round and see what has been done

We are still looking for volunteers in painting and decorating, plumbing and carpentry, if anybody is bored with these skills we would love to hear from you.

Our funding regime for 2005 is now in place and our thanks must to to Sita Environmental Trust, Gateshead Council, Lloyds TSB Foundation and we hope for a contribution from Gateshead PCT.

Trevor has just purchased a second hand Ateco Royale Lawnmower for the trust, this is a Rollsroyce of mowers, so i'm told, it certainly made a beautify job with it's first cut. This will reduce a lot of the leg-work that we had with the Flymo's but these are still necessary for the sloping lawns.

During the gales earlier this year we lost a large Ash Tree that has been looking very poorly since we came on site, this gave us loads of heavy timber that we have cut into boards and made into visitor seats. We have a legacy of some nice large round slices that would appear to be useful for a sculpture of a steam roller, has anybody any ideas, and would you like to try your skills?

Donald our volunteer Dry Stone Walling Teacher has had a group on site and has rebuilt the wall of the middle terrace by the compass as a training [text unreadable to be input later]

The future is looking better at Path Head Water Mill, we hope to complete all out outside projects this Summer and be able to start on the mechanical parts of the inside in the Autumn, this will improve our internal running image and also give us the [unknown text] to try some of the donated machinery.

Think that's about all for now, I hope to give another positive report in the Summer Nesletter

May 7th & 8th are National Mills Weekend and we also have a Craft Fair. So do come and see us!

Regards Trevor & Ben, May 2005
